LOVELAND, Colo. — A 17-year-old boy was shot and killed early Tuesday morning, the Loveland Police Department said.

The caller said the 17-year-old was not breathing and that the suspect had left the residence.
When officers and paramedics arrived, it was determined the boy was dead, police said.
Officers later found the suspect, later identified as 18-year-old Gabriel Jesus Romero Ventura. The victim and the suspect knew each other, but police did not say how.
Police said Romero Ventura has been charged with first-degree assault, manslaughter and prohibited use of weapons. He was booked into the Larimer County Jail.
Detectives were investigating what led to the shooting, but police said alcohol might be a contributing factor. The weapon was recovered, police said.
The name of the victim, who was not enrolled in any schools in Loveland, was not released.
